The Not So Simple Life
The Not So Simple Life draws inspiration from The Simple Life, starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. The sculpture satirises the show’s absurd premise while more pointedly critiquing disparities in wealth distribution.
Rooted in Kathryn’s strong commitment to animal rights, the work also reflects her frustration with the mistreatment of animals, often justified by profit and accessibility for the broader population. It further draws on Something in the Way by Nirvana, particularly the lyric, “It’s okay to eat fish ’cause they don’t have any feelings,” using it to deepen the work’s commentary on empathy and ethical consumption.
